first-year council

fostering new leadership

First Year Council (FYC) is a unique and exciting opportunity for first-year students to be actively involved in Dems programming and organizing. Led by an elected First Year Representative and Membership Director, FYC is an inclusive and accessible space of 10-20 passionate first-year students. Our weekly meetings are always open, providing opportunities for first-years to get involved at any time during the academic year.
Each semester, FYC is responsible for planning an activism event, a social event, and a general body meeting. In 2019-20, FYC led GBMs on housing justice in NYC and intersectional organizing, organized a trip to a Decolonize This Place protest, and developed the club’s community guidelines. In past years, FYC has organized game nights for our membership, created an activism zine, and led an initiative to write postcards to voters.

First Year Council has no application process or prerequisites to take part--all first-year undergraduates are welcome!
