LOBBY TRIP

ADVOCATING FOR NATIONAL POLICY REFORM

Each spring, the Columbia University Democrats take a two-day, all-expenses-paid trip to the United States Capitol to lobby Members of Congress in support of progressive policies. All active members have the opportunity to apply for these trips, organized by our Lead Activists. No prior lobbying experience is required and training sessions are offered to prepare all Lobby Trip participants.

recent lobby trips

Our most recent Lobby Trip took place in 2019, when the Columbia University Democrats traveled to Washington, D.C. from April 11-13th to advocate for Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal, Ted Lieu's Climate Solutions Act of 2019, and other climate change legislation. CU Dems members scheduled meetings with the offices of their hometown representatives and engaged with their Members of Congress and staff. Unfortunately, the 2020 Lobby Trip could not move forward due to COVID-19. More information regarding the 2021 Lobby trip will be released in the Spring semester.
